Frequently Asked QuestionsHow can I purchase a TD Bank Visa® Gift Card?
As a TD Bank customer you can purchase gift cards at your local TD Bank or by calling Customer Service at 1-888-751-9000. Gift cards can be purchased in dollar values ranging from $25 to $750.
Is there a fee to purchase or use the card?
There is no fee to purchase or make transactions using the card! Depending on the state in which the card was purchased, your card may be subject to an inactivity fee after 12 months of inactivity. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions for details.
Why should I register my TD Bank Visa Gift Card?
To use your card everywhere Visa is accepted, TD Bank needs to have on record the gift card number as well as the name of the cardholder using the card. Unless you register your card in advance, there will be no way an internet, mail or telephone order merchant can confirm your identity. Without such confirmation, the merchant might decline your purchase even if there are sufficient funds on the card.
Also, if your card is lost or stolen and you would like to request a new card, we need your name and address in our records from the registration process in order to mail you a new card.
How do I register my TD Bank Visa Gift Card?

Instructions for online registration: How do I get a personal identification number (PIN)?
If the card is purchased after 3/31/13 you have the option of choosing a PIN. You can select your PIN by logging into TD Bank Card Services. Once you have selected a password, you will be provided an option to register your card, and then provided the Create PIN option. You must choose a 4 digit PIN in order to make PIN transactions. Do not disclose the PIN, record it on the card, or otherwise make it available to anyone else. If you do not choose a PIN, you will still be able to make purchases using your signature or the "Credit" payment option at merchants who display the Visa logo and who have agreed to accept the card. Do cards sold on or before 3/31/13 have the option to add a PIN?
Only cards sold after 3/31/13 will have the PIN feature. Please call Customer Service at 1-888-294-2249, if you have any questions.
How do I use my TD Bank Visa Gift Card to make purchases?
There are two ways to use your new card to make a purchase.
What if a merchant asks me for a PIN and I do not have one?
To pay for purchases at merchants who ask for a PIN, tell the clerk you would like to sign for the transaction.
Can I use my TD Bank Visa Gift Card to get cash?
No, your gift card cannot be used for cash access at an ATM or bank branch, and it cannot be used to get cash back when you make a purchase. However, if your gift card's value is below $5, visit your local TD Bank to request a check for the value remaining on the card.
Can the TD Bank Visa Gift Card be used at more than one merchant?
Yes, absolutely! Your card can be used at all merchants who display the Visa or NYCE logo and who have agreed to accept the card. It's one of the advantages over gift cards that must be used at one location, like a retail store gift card.
Can my TD Bank Visa Gift Card be used for online and telephone purchases?
Yes, the card needs to be registered and the name and billing address for the purchase must match the name and address for which the card was registered.
It's easy to register your new card. Does the TD Bank Visa Gift Card work at gas stations?
If you use the card at a gas station, we recommend that you pay inside and specify the exact amount. Some terminals automatically preauthorize transactions at the pump for a predetermined amount prior to your purchase that may exceed the balance on your card and cause the card to be declined.
Do some merchants place a hold on available value on the gift card in excess of the actual purchase amount?
Yes, some merchants may seek approval for an amount greater than the purchase amount. In that case, TD Bank will place a hold on the card balance for the amount approved. That hold will stay in place until the merchant sends TD Bank the final amount of the purchase, which may be several days or longer. Here are some examples of when this could occur:
Are there any other usage restrictions on my TD Bank Visa Gift Card?
Yes. Gift cards cannot be used for illegal transactions or internet gambling.
What if the purchase price is greater than the value on my TD Bank Visa Gift Card?
If you need to purchase something that costs more than the balance on your gift card, you can combine the gift card balance with cash, check or another card (debit card or credit card). Merchants' policies may vary slightly, so just tell the merchant before completing your sale that you want to split the purchase between forms of payment and inform the merchant of the balance on your card. You will need to know your balance in order to deplete all the funds on your card as the merchant is unable to see the value on your card.
How can I check the available balance on my card?
It's easy to check the available balance on your card.
Does the TD Bank Visa Gift Card expire?
No. Cards have a "good thru" date which is on the front of the card. If the card passes the "good thru" date, and a balance remains on the card, visit your local TD Bank store to obtain a new card.
Are there any monthly fees?
Depending on the state in which the card was purchased, a monthly fee may be charged after 12 months of inactivity, if the card is lost or stolen and needs to be replaced, and for express delivery of a replacement card. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions for details.
Will the fees come out of the balance on the card?
Yes, all fees are deducted from your available balance on the card.
What happens when the balance is zero?
The TD Bank Visa Gift Card is not reloadable. Once the dollar value is used, the card has no value and should be destroyed.
Can money be added to the TD Bank Visa Gift Card?
No, the card is non-reloadable. Once the dollar value is used, the card has no value and should be destroyed.
What if there is a dispute over a purchase made with the TD Bank Visa Gift Card?
If you or the person to whom you gave the TD Bank Visa Gift Card have a dispute, first contact the merchant directly to settle the transaction in question. If you are unsuccessful in resolving the issue with the merchant, call Customer Service at 1-888-294-2249.
What if there is an error on a transaction made with my TD Bank Visa Gift Card?
If there is an error involving a transaction made with your TD Bank Visa Gift Card or a purchase that was not authorized, you should contact Customer Service at 1-888-294-2249.
What should I do if my card is lost or stolen?
Your gift card is the same as cash and it is like losing cash if it is lost or stolen. The best way to keep your possible losses down is to call us at 1-888-294-2249 immediately. For a stolen card that has been previously registered, a replacement card may be issued for the value remaining on the card at the time it is reported stolen. There may be a fee for replacing lost or stolen cards and for express delivery of a replacement card. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions for details.
