Certificate of Deposits (CDs) FAQs

  • How do certificate of deposit (CD) accounts work?

You agree to leave your money in an account for a set period of time known as a term. At TD Bank, you'll need a minimum deposit of $250 to get started. You earn a fixed interest rate that's typically higher than the rates offered on standard savings accounts. Plus, that interest compounds. Meaning you earn interest on the money you deposit plus the interest your money earns. When the CD hits maturity, you will receive the original amount you invested plus the interest accrued. • What happens at the end of a CD term?

When your TD Bank certificate of deposit matures – you have options. We can help you feel prepared to take action once it's time to renew. Learn more about your options at maturity

  • What is APY?

APY is the Annual Percentage Yield which is the real rate of return earned on investment. Our current CD rates can be seen here. If you link a TD checking account with your TD Promotional Choice CD, you can earn a relationship rate.3

  • What do you need to open a CD account?

To open a TD Certificate of Deposit account, you'll need your: social security number, government-issued ID, source of funds (existing banking information), and phone number (additional information may be required).
