Expand Where can I use Samsung Pay?

Samsung Pay works almost anywhere you can swipe your card or tap and pay. Samsung Pay is the only mobile payment service that works at the majority of U.S. retail locations. To see the most up-to-date information on where you can use Samsung Pay visit the Samsung Pay website.

Expand How do I make an in-store purchase with Samsung Pay?

  • Start by either swiping-up from the home button or opening the Samsung Pay app from your home screen.
  • Next, select the TD Bank Visa card you want to pay with.
  • Then, verify your fingerprint and hover your phone about ½ inch over the card reader where you'd usually swipe or tap your physical card to complete the transaction.
  • If you prefer, you can set up Samsung Pay to use a PIN instead of your fingerprint for verification.

Expand What if the merchant tells me I can't use Samsung Pay at checkout?

As Samsung Pay's technology is new to the marketplace, some merchants may not be familiar with it and how it functions. Samsung Pay works at both contactless and most traditional payment terminals where you swipe your card, which means you can use it almost anywhere you shop today.

Some merchants may assume their card reader cannot accept Samsung Pay since their reader is not enabled as a contactless payment terminal, but, because of Samsung Pay's unique technology, it works almost anywhere you can swipe your card or tap to pay.

To see the most up-to-date information on Samsung Pay visit the Samsung Pay website.

Samsung Pay does not currently work at gas station pumps where you have to fully insert your card and some payment terminals may require software updates to support Samsung Pay. If you find Samsung Pay does not work a particular merchant location, you can still use your physical card to pay as you would normally.

Expand Will I have to sign a receipt or enter a PIN when paying with Samsung Pay?

It depends on the merchant. In some cases you may need to sign a receipt or enter your ATM PIN – just as you would with your plastic TD Bank Visa card. If asked to verify the last four digits of your card number when making a purchase, instead provide the last four digits of the device account number. The device account number can be found by selecting the card in Samsung Pay.

Expand Will I continue to earn rewards and benefits from my TD Bank Visa cards when I pay using Samsung Pay?

Yes. If your TD Bank Visa card earns points or rewards for eligible transactions, you will continue to earn the same points and/or rewards for eligible transactions when you pay using that card in Samsung Pay.

Expand Does Samsung Pay show my recent transactions?

Certain transactions, including recent purchases, may be available in the card details screen if you have transaction notifications turned on. To see the details screen open Samsung Pay and tap the card you would like to review.

In the case of any conflict, your TD Bank account statement is the true source for transaction details.

Expand Why is my transaction sometimes reported differently in Samsung Pay?

Occasionally only initial authorization amounts will be passed to Samsung Pay, which might be different from the final transaction amount. As a result, you might see different transaction amounts from locations such as restaurants, gas service stations, hotels, and car rental companies. Always refer to your TD Bank account statement for the true transaction details.

Expand How do I return an item I bought using Samsung Pay in a store?

To return something you bought in-store with Samsung Pay you will need your store receipt, just like you would for any other purchase. If the merchant asks you to swipe your card, swipe up from the home button or open the Samsung Pay app, select the card you paid with, verify your fingerprint and then hover your device over the card reader to complete the return. For some returns, you might have to provide the last 4 digits of your device account number. You can find your device account number on the card details screen in your Samsung Pay app.

Note: If the merchant requires you to swipe the original card used to make the purchase:
  • You will need to use Samsung Pay to complete the return if you used Samsung Pay to make the purchase. You will not be able to use Samsung Pay to complete the return if you used your physical card to make the purchase.
  • You will need to use your physical card to complete the return if you used your physical card to make the purchase. You will not be able to use your physical card to complete the return if you used Samsung Pay to make the purchase.

Expand How does Samsung Pay keep my information private?

Samsung Pay does not store your personal/payment information on a Samsung server or on your device. Additionally, your full details are never shared with merchants when you buy something; they see your device account number instead.

Expand What should I do if my Samsung device is lost or stolen?

If your Samsung Pay-enabled Samsung device is lost or stolen, you can also use Samsung's Find My Mobile service to disable cards remotely.

You can also contact TD Bank Customer Service to delete your TD Bank Visa cards in the device.

Expand Can I continue to use my plastic TD Bank Visa cards if I suspend or remove those cards in Samsung Pay?

When you suspend or remove your cards in Samsung Pay, only your device-specific device account number is suspended or removed.

Your plastic card numbers are not saved on the device, and you can continue to use your plastic cards normally, as long as you didn't deactivate them.

Expand What should I do when I receive a replacement card?

When you receive a replacement TD Bank Visa card, TD Bank will not automatically update your device account number within Samsung Pay with your new card information. Alternatively, you can delete your old TD Bank Visa card from your device and add the replacement card, which will create a new device account number.

Expand What is a virtual or device account number?

All your payment cards stored in Samsung Pay are assigned a device account number. This number is used instead of your actual card number when you make a purchase with Samsung Pay, so that your payment info isn't shared with the merchant. If you ever need to make a return, you might have to provide the last 4 digits of your device account number. You can find your device account number on the card details screen in your Samsung Pay app.
