an annuity check mailed to the TD customer's home address. Is there any way to have the check deposited without the incarcerated individual being present at a store at the time of the deposit? Are there any other options, POA to open a joint account, online notary services, etc., to enable the deposit of the check without the incarcerated individual being present at the time of the deposit?

Hi Tim. Thanks for reaching out to us at TD Helps.
The problem with making deposits on the account owners behalf would be that the check deposit needs to be endorsed by the a signer prior to deposit. We may not accept checks that are not endorsed. The issuing bank may also refuse payment on an unendorsed check.
If someone will be making these deposits for the signer while they are incarcerated, they will need to endorse the back with 'For Deposit Only' and it must be deposited into the payee's account. Please know that acceptance of check deposits not made by the account owner, is up to Store discretion.
If a court appointed POA is assigned with full authority to handle our Customer's finances, they should be able to endorse the check with 'For Deposit Only' and make the deposit without issue. .
If someone is assigned POA, please ask that person to visit a local TD Bank Store with their documents and photo ID to be added to the account. To find conveniently located TD Bank Store, please click here: https://go.td.com/1nq31dc.
We hope this info helps, Tom. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or stop in to see us at any of our Stores.
Have a great day, Tim.
