are you required to order checks when opening a checking account?

Good morning, Ross. Welcome to TD Helps!
Here at TD Bank, we do offer the option to order checks for your account; however, it is not necessary. This is one of the many features that come with your TD Checking account, and if you would prefer not to order checks, you do not have to, as this is completely optional.
However, should you decide that you'd like to order checks for your account, you're able to do so at any time, and there's a couple ways you may place your order.
The first, and most convenient way you're able to order checks, is to do so using your Online Banking. Feel free to use this link: https://go.td.com/1eaISlq to log directly in. If you haven't yet enrolled in Online Banking, don't worry, as you can use the link here: https://go.td.com/1lU2qfY to get started. To complete the enrollment process, you will need your account number, Debit Card number, your Social Security Number, and a valid email address.
Once you've logged into your Online Banking, ordering checks is simple. Towards the top, right hand side of your screen, you should see a tab that reads 'Customer Service'. Once you click on this tab, under the 'Special Request and Documents' section, towards the center, you will see a link that reads 'Order Checks.' This link will take you directly to the screen where you can select the account you wish to order checks for, and after confirming, you will be redirected to another page. After completing all the required information, you'll be all set!
If you're having trouble ordering your checks using your Online Banking, or if you'd rather speak with a Specialist directly, you're more than welcome to call a Banking Specialist, as they are always happy to help.
