How can I close down my USA account from UK

In reply to Jeanne, Lampeter
We're sorry to hear that you've had trouble using your card in the UK, Jeanne.
It sounds like your account and/or debit card may be going to an inactive status due to inactivity. A checking or money market account is changed to an inactive status after 6 months of no Customer initiated activity. A savings account is changed to an inactive status after 9 months of no Customer initiated activity.
This status can be avoided by processing periodic transactions on your account. We understand this may be difficult as you're located in the UK. While we would hate to see you go, we do understand.
It is possible to close your account without a visit to the United States. If you're able to withdrawal the full balance on the account and bring the balance to zero, you can request the account closed by phone or by secure message through your online or mobile banking. The easiest way to withdraw the full balance it to write yourself a check for the total in the account and deposit the check into an account you hold in the UK. Please know that due to foreign collections, it may take some time for the check to clear. Once the account is at a zero balance, you may reach out to us by using country code 011 and calling 856-751-9000 or calling us collect with operator assistance from a landline at 215-569-0518. We have representatives available 24/7 to help. You can also send us your request through your online or mobile banking. To send a secure message, log into your TD Bank online profile by clicking here: https://go.td.com/1eaISlq. Once you've successfully logged in, look for the 'Message Center' on the left hand side and select 'Send a secure message'. From your Mobile Banking, log in and select 'Send a Secure Message' from the side Menu. We can generally respond within 24 hours or less.
If you are unable to close withdraw all of your funds, you may mail your written, signed, and notarized request to you home Store. To find contact info and addresses for all of our Stores, please click here: https://go.td.com/1nq31dc. Please be sure to include your account number so we may issue you an official check for the remaining funds in your account as well as your final statement.
If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us here or through one of the methods we've provided above.
We hope you're having a great day, Jeanne.
