Thank you for visiting TD Helps today, Octavia. We will be glad to answer your question.
You can certainly deposit a Cashier's check after your new account is set up.
Generally speaking, when making check deposits with a Teller, the first $100.00 is made available immediately. If you are a new account holder and your account has not been open for 30 consecutive days, Check Deposits can be held up to 7 business days for verification purposes. After this grace period, not only will the first $100.00 be made available at the time of deposit but the rest of the funds will credit to your account the following business day.
Check deposits made at a TD Bank ATM before 8:00 PM on a business day are considered deposits made on that business day. A business day is every day except Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays. If you make a deposit at an ATM before 8 PM on a business day that we are open, we will consider that to be the day of your deposit. However, if you make a deposit at an ATM after 8 PM, or on a day we are not open, we will consider that the deposit was made on the next business day.
As you mentioned that you're depositing a cashier’s check, you'll be glad to learn that funds from the first $5,000 of a day’s total deposits of cashier’s, certified, teller’s, traveler’s, and federal, state, and local government checks will be available on the first Business Day after the day of your deposit. Please keep in mind, if you make a deposit at TD Bank before 8:00 PM on a business day, it would be considered a deposit on that business day. A business day is every day except Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays. For weekend deposits, this usually means that the deposit will be considered Monday's deposit and will post to your account Tuesday.
We invite you to look at our Personal Deposit Account Agreement here: http://bit.ly/1kb17UQ, which can explain our deposit availability policy in full detail for you. Please take note of pages 40-41, where you can find our Funds Availability Policy specifically the Special Rules for Cashier's checks along with information about when you'll have access to deposits.
You may also feel free to contact us 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or visit your local TD Bank store for any additional assistance. For help locating a TD Store near you, check out: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Let us know if you have any other questions. We hope you have a nice day!
