If I have a TD checking account in my name only and want to load money onto a prepaid card for someone else (a TD prepaid card) - can I do that? If so, how long will the transfer take?

Thanks for your question, Erin. We'd be glad to help.
Please know that at this time, you are unable to transfer directly to one of our prepaid Visa cards if you are not the account holder. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
You are able to send funds to TD and non-TD Customers within the U.S. using our Person-to-Person Payments feature via Online Banking.
In order to be eligible to use the Person-to-Person payment service, you must have a United States address, a unique United States phone number, a United States issued Social Security number and a valid unique email address. You must also be enrolled for Online Banking and be using a TD Bank Checking or Money Market account for the transfer.
If you've met the requirements mentioned above, please log in here: http://go.td.com/1eaISlq to get started. Next, follow the steps below:
- First, you must enroll in the service. To do so, you would select the tab that says Person-to-Person payments at the top of your Online Banking screen.
- Then, you will be asked to accept a user agreement, review the fee schedule and confirm your email and phone number. A text and email code will be sent to the mobile number and email address we have on file for you.
- Next we will request you to submit both codes for verification to complete the enrollment process.
You will have two delivery options when sending a Person-to-Person payment; there is the three business day option and the next business day delivery. Please note, the next day delivery option is not available for savings accounts. To qualify for the next day delivery option, you must wait 90 days from your first successful 3-day transfer and must not have had any transactions that overdrew your account in the past 90 days.

I have purchased Visa Prepaid Card and notice it says reloadable. I purchased this card for my granddaughter and sending it to her. Will she be able to add money to it by herself. This makes me kind of nervous

It sounds like you've purchased a TD Connect Card or a TD Go Card.
With these types of prepaid Visa cards, your granddaughter should be able to reload it. But don't worry, just because you bought the card, does not mean that you have to continue to fund it. If she chooses to add money to her TD Bank prepaid Visa card, she will have to visit a TD Bank Store and add money in cash or with her own TD Bank account, if she has one. Unless she is a signer on your TD Bank account, she will not be able to fund it using your account. But you do have the ability to transfer funds to her, if you choose.
