Hi, I'm international student.
In a week, I will go to America. I think make a check account with debit card is efficent for me.
But I don't have SSN.(I can get it after 2-3weeks later.) I heard it will be hard to make debit card without SSN.
My visa type is J1.
Can I make debit card? If it is ok, what documents will need?

Thanks for contacting TD Helps today, Jungyoun. We're happy to see that you're looking to join the TD Family, and we'll be happy to help you in the best way we can.
Without a Social Security number, during your visit at a TD Store, you will be required to fill out a W-8 form to complete the account opening process. If you are not a US citizen, you will not be required to have a US physical address, but you will need to bring your foreign Passport along with 2 forms of identification: driver's license, State ID, or US Passport. For hours and locations please view http://go.td.com/1f9DSJR.
Prior to your visit, we welcome you to take a look at the different types of Checking accounts that TD Bank offers. You may do so by following the link provided here: https://go.td.com/2aHjRCr. We also suggest looking at our Checking selector tool here: https://go.td.com/1vW1xnU, as it will provide you with a personalized checking account recommendation. You may also take a look at https://go.td.com/1hzzhPT for more detailed information on each particular Savings Account available at TD Bank. You may find it helpful to check out our customized Savings Selector tool, found here: https://go.td.com/1vW1DvM.
If you have any additional inquires, feel free to contact our Banking Specialists at 1-888-751-9000, available 24/7. As you have stated that you are currently not in the United States for another two weeks, you may also contact us by calling Collect, with operator assistance from any land line phone, by asking the Operator to dial 1-215-569-0518.
We hope this helped answer your question, Jungyoun and have a great day.

Thank you for replying.
I understand most of it.
I have some questions.
As you know I am not a Us citizen, so you mean US passport-wrote in your answer- is US visa?
Because I don't have driver license.
Another question is, If I want to make a debit card do I have to make a checking account first?

Thanks for joining us this afternoon, Jungyoun. We'd be happy to review your question further.
As a Non-US resident, you will need to bring two forms of identification with you. One form of ID must be a Non-US passport and the second form of ID you may select from the list below:
- Employment ID with Photo and Signature
- State Issued ID or Driver's License with Signature
- Foreign Driver's License with Photo
- US Employment Authorization card with Photo, Signature and Expiration Date
- College ID with Photo
- Alien Registration Card with Photo
- Permanent Resident Card with Photo
As mentioned previously, if you wish to obtain a debit card, it will be necessary to open a Checking account. Please review the answer above for additional details on how to open an account.
We hope this information has been helpful. We look forward to seeing you soon!
