Thank you for considering TD for your family's banking needs, Chris. We're happy to provide some options here.
In order to open an individual TD Checking, the individual must be at least 18 years of age. As you mentioned that your son is under the age of 18, we do ask that an adult accompanies him at one of our nearby TD Bank Stores, during lobby hours to open a joint account. For help locating a TD Store near you, please visit: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Please keep in mind that both of the adult and your son will need to provide a valid form of identification such as Driver's License, Passport, Military I.D. etc. and Social Security number. As a minor, acceptable forms of identification for minors includes; School ID (preferably with a picture), Passport, US Birth Certificate or Social Security Card.
As you're inquiring about a TD Student Checking account, we invite you please visit here; http://bit.ly/S8Vejp for all the information you may want to know about this product type.
Please also know that a Visa Debit Card can be issued for a minor at the parent's consent and Store manager's discretion. Just in case that we're unable to issue a debit card in your son's name at this time due to his age, you may wish to consider TD Go card. TD Go is a reloadable prepaid card that gives the teens the freedom of making their own purchases, online or at a store, and it is accepted wherever Visa debit and credit cards are accepted. It also gives the parents the ability to set boundaries for the teens' spending. For more information on the TD GO card, take a look here: http://bit.ly/1d2j6OJ.
Thanks again for choosing TD Bank, Chris. We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
