Thanks for connecting with us here at TD Helps, Twila. We appreciate your interest in banking with TD Bank and would be glad to help.
It sounds like you are looking to deposit a Canadian check as your initial deposit. If so, we're glad to inform you that you can certainly deposit a Canadian check into your TD Bank account. Kindly note, foreign checks will need to be deposited with a Teller and won't be able to be cashed. We invite you to review some helpful information we have listed below before making this deposit.
Regarding your deposit of a foreign check to TD Bank, to answer your question, rates used for currency conversion are provided by TD Bank traders. We do not use rates printed by third parties in newspapers or published online and apologize that we're unable to provide the rate directly here.
Kindly note that the conversion rate will be applied on the day the check is received in our Foreign Check Collection department or on the day we receive the funds from the foreign bank, and not on the date of deposit. Additionally, fees may apply for the deposit of a foreign item. If you'll be depositing the check to a personal account with TD Bank, please take a look at our current Fee Schedule here: http://bit.ly/1cTejgt.
For your protection, the item should be hand delivered to a Store. Please do not deposit foreign checks by using the ATM or via Mobile Deposit.
Also, please note that there are exceptions that may cause delays in funds availability. We invite you to look at our Deposit Account Agreement here for personal accounts: http://bit.ly/1kb17UQ. Starting on page 39, you can find our Funds Availability Policy along with information about when you'll have access to deposits.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or stop by any of the TD Store locations in your area. To find out TD Store locations near you, please visit: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
We hope this was helpful information, Twila. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
