Thank you for reaching us on TD Helps, Mark. We'd be happy to clarify ACH payments with you.
When sending an ACH payment for either personal or business accounts, you may not include a memo as you would a paper check. Since your account number and routing number as well as the amount of payment are the only three pieces of information used, no memo would be included.
If you need to include a memo with your payment, you may still send your recipient a paper check, or you can schedule a Person-to-Person payment online from your account to another person's account even at a different institution. With this system you may include a memo. To do so, you must first be enrolled in Online Banking and you may begin the process here: http://bit.ly/1lU2qfY. Keep in mind that you'll need your account number, your ATM/Visa Debit Card number, Social Security number and email address to complete the enrollment. Once logged in, you may enroll in Person-to-Person payments by selecting the "Transfers" tab. You will then be asked to accept a user agreement, review the fee schedule and confirm your email and phone number. A text and email code will be sent to the mobile number and the email address we have on file for you. Next, we will request you to submit both codes for verification to complete the enrollment process. Once the enrollment is complete, you’ll be ready to send the payment which the other person will receive in one business day or three business days as per your selection. To send a transfer please follow the steps below:
- Log into your Online Banking
- Click on the Person-to-Person Payments tab.
- Select the account in which you are sending the funds from
- Type in the person’s name, email or mobile number you are sending the funds to
- Type in the amount you’re trying to send
- Add memo
- Select the send date
- Click continue
- Complete the pop-up to add a new contact
- Click save
