Is there any way to stop a POS charge from coming out of my checking account? The merchant charged me twice as it was thought the sale did not go through the first time.

Welcome to TD Helps, Maureen.
We appreciate you bringing your concerns to us this morning!
Before we begin, we'd first like to take a moment to apologize that you may have been charged twice for a purchase, and please know that we're here to help.
Duplicate charges such as the one you have described are not uncommon when using your debit card. Typically, this error occurs when the merchant receives an error after your card is swiped, generally due to the merchant's debit or credit card machine. In the event that this does occur, and the merchant proceeds to swipe your card a second time, should you be charged twice, please don't worry!
To have a duplicate charge removed from your account, we invite you to connect with one of our Banking Specialist. For your convenience, Banking Specialists are here to help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and can be reached by dialing 1-888-751-9000. If you'd prefer, you may also visit your nearest TD Store location, during lobby hours, to speak with a Customer Service Representative. To take a look at Store locations and their hours, please visit http://go.td.com/1f9DSJR.
After speaking with a Specialist and having the hold removed, the funds will be released back to your available balance immediately. In the unlikely event that this duplicate charge should still post to your account after having been removed, you're more than welcome to connect with us again at any of the methods mentioned above, and we'll be happy to file a dispute on your behalf!
We hope this provides you with some peace of mind, Maureen, and we thank you again for stopping by!
Take care, and enjoy the start to your morning.
