I have a bank draft in Canadian dollars from a TD branch in Toronto made out to me.
Can I deposit it into my U.S. TD account and wait for it to clear?
Do I need to see a manager at the back or just a lobby teller?
What exchange rate would apply to this as of today?
Are there any additional fees for this transaction?

Welcome to TD Helps, Alan. We'd be happy to discuss deposit options with you.
You can deposit a Canadian check (including the checks issued by TD Canada Trust) into your TD Bank U.S. account. Keep in mind that a foreign check will need to be deposited with a Teller. Please do not deposit foreign checks by using the ATM or Mobile App. To take a look at TD Stores near you and their hours please visit, http://bit.ly/TDStores.
If you're unable to visit a TD Bank Store location in person, you may also mail in this Canadian check to us. Banking by mail is simple and easy. All you would need to do is mail your deposit to the address below:
TD Bank, N.A. ME2-001-033 P.O. Box Number 1190 Lewiston, Maine 04243
The P.O. Box is checked daily and transactions are posted the same day.
If you need to Fed-EX or UPS a mail in a Deposit to us, you can ship it to the address below:
TD Bank Bank by Mail 140 Mill Street Lewiston ME 04243
Please keep in mind that the TD Bank is not responsible for items lost in mail. Here are some additional tips to consider prior to mailing your deposit:
- Cash should not be sent through the mail
- Payee of the check and name on deposit ticket should be the same
- Checks should be endorsed (and restricted "for deposit only")
- Multiple checks should be listed and a total of the deposit listed
- Enclose the deposit ticket, not the carbon copy
- If using a blank deposit ticket, please write the account number clearly
- Do not staple transactions
Depending on the amount of this Canadian check, there are exceptions that may cause delays in funds availability. We invite you to look at our Deposit Account Agreement here for personal accounts: http://bit.ly/1kb17UQ. On pages 38-41 you can find our Funds Availability Policy along with information about when you'll have access to deposits. For foreign check deposit funds availability, please refer directly to page 41 for additional information.
Please know that there may also be fees applied for the deposit of a foreign check. To take a look at our Fee Schedule please visit http://bit.ly/1cTejgt.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to our Banking Specialists 24/7 at 888-751-9000.
We hope this helps, Alan and have a good day.
