Hello there, Sara,
We appreciate you writing in to us today.
We can certainly clarify our deposit availability for you. Typically, government checks are treated the same as any other type of check when deposited at TD Bank.
When you deposit a check with TD Bank, either with a Teller or at the ATM, the first $100 is usually made available immediately. In general, the rest of the funds will be credited to your account on the following business date. Kindly note that the business date is determined by the day and time of your deposit.
If your deposit is made at TD Bank before 8:00 pm on a business day, it would be considered a deposit on that business day. A business day is every day except Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays. For example, during the week, a deposit on a Wednesday before 8:00 pm will typically result in funds available Thursday. For deposits made on the weekend, this usually means that the deposit will be considered Monday's business date and will post to your account (become available)Tuesday.
Exceptions can also occur which can cause delays in funds availability. For example, if you are a new account holder and your account has not been open for 30 consecutive days, check deposits can be held for up to seven business days for verification purposes. We invite you to look at our Personal Deposit Account Agreement here: http://bit.ly/1kb17UQ. On pages 38-41 you can find our Funds Availability Policy along with information about when you'll have access to deposits.
We hope you find this information helpful, Sara.
Wishing you a great rest of your weekend!
