What are my options for closing an acct? Online, over the phone, etc. Do I have to personally go into a branch and, if so, does it have to be the branch at which the account was opened? Let me know, thx.

Good morning, DB, and happy Saturday.
We're so sorry to hear that you'll be closing your account, but we understand, and we'll be happy to help.
There are a few ways in which you are able to close your account, and we'll be happy to provide you with all your options so that you may choose the one that is most convenient for you.
The first option you have is to visit a TD Store location, during lobby hours, to speak with a Customer Service Representative. By doing so, you can request to have your account closed as long as it does not reflect a negative balance. You're welcome to use the link here: http://go.td.com/1f9DSJR to find your nearest TD Store location, as well as their lobby hours.
If your account has a balance, and you're unable to visit a TD Store location, you would also have the option of sending TD Bank a written, signed, and notarized request to the following address:
TD Bank, N.A.
Your home Store address
Your home Store's telephone number
If you're unsure of your home Store location, you're more than welcome to call and speak with one of our knowledgeable Banking Specialist by simply dialing 1-888-751-9000. For your convenience, our Banking Specialists are here to help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If your account currently holds a zero dollar balance, you're also welcome to call and speak with a Banking Specialist in regard to having your account closed.
Another option you have if your account has a zero dollar balance is to send your request via a secure message. Sending a secure message is easy, and can be completed right from your online banking.
To send a secure message, you will first want to log into your TD Bank online profile by clicking here: https://go.td.com/1eaISlq. Once you've successfully logged in, look for the 'Message Center' on the left hand side and select 'Send a secure message'. If you have downloaded our mobile banking app for your smartphone, you may also use this method to send a secure message. From your Mobile Banking, log in and select 'Send a Secure Message' from the side Menu. We generally respond within 24 hours or less.
In your message, please be sure to include your request, as well as any account number(s) you wish to have closed as this information will be needed to proceed.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, you're always welcome to contact us in any of the methods mentioned above, as we're always happy to help.
We hope this information helped, DB, and please enjoy the start to your weekend!

Thank you for the above information.
I was wondering what would happen to the funds if I am closing an account via written request that still has money in it?

Thanks for joining in on the conversation, Tanya!
This is a great question!
If you're unable to visit a TD Store location, and you would like to send TD Bank a written, signed, and notarized request to have your account closed, we would be happy to process this request for you, even if your account has a positive balance.
Once we have received your request, the account will be closed, and we will issue you a check as well as your final statement to the address we have on record. Because of this, it's important to include all account numbers you wish to have closed included in your request.
If you have any questions at all, as a friendly reminder, you're always welcome to connect with one of our Banking Specialist, 24/7, by simply calling 1-888-751-9000.
We're always happy to help!
Thanks again for stopping by, Tanya. Take care!
