Thanks for reaching out to us at TD Helps today, Julie. We'd be glad to help.
With a joint account, both signers have 100% ownership over the account. If the courts have ruled that he should no longer have access to the account, it should probably be closed.
The good news is that since it’s a joint account, closing it should be easy and can be done by either signer without requiring the other signer present. Just stop in to see us at any local TD Bank Store. We'd be happy to close out the account and move the funds to an individual account you have with us, or provide you with the funds in the form of cash or official check. To find a TD Bank Store near you, please click here: https://go.td.com/1nq31dc.
You may also be able to close the account by phone or secure message request if the account is at a zero balance. If you've removed the funds or transferred them to another account you have with us, just give us a call at 888-751-9000 and we'd be happy to submit the request to close your account. Please know if we close the account by phone or email request, it may take 2-3 business days to fully close.
As we'd mentioned, you can close the account by sending us your request through your online or mobile banking. To send a secure message, log into your TD Bank online profile by clicking here: https://go.td.com/1eaISlq. Once you've successfully logged in, look for the 'Message Center' on the left hand side and select 'Send a secure message'. From your Mobile Banking, log in and select 'Send a Secure Message' from the side Menu. We can generally respond within 24 hours or less.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, Jennifer. Take care!
