I have a joint account with my mother's name on it from when I was younger and now want to close that account and transfer the funds to my joint account with my husband. Do both myself and my mother have to be present to close the account or can I close it on my own? I could also bring the account to a zero balance and then close the account.

Good day Meredith, you came to the right place for help!
We are glad to inform you that for most accounts, only one party, you or your mother, would be needed to close the joint account at any time at any TD location. Please note, if the joint account you have with your mother is a Young Saver account, we do ask that your mother visit to close it.
For any other type of account, to close it you may visit any local Store and a Customer Service Specialist would be able to help. For help locating a TD Store near you, please check out: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
If the account is not a Young Saver account, you have other options as well since you mentioned you would like transfer the funds into your joint account you currently share with your husband. If you are a signer on both accounts, you may call us at 888-751-9000. Our Specialists are available 24/7 and after account verification, we would be happy to help. We can assist with transferring the funds into the joint account you share with your husband and once the account you share with your mother is at a zero balance, we can then request to close this account for you via telephone!
Or, we'd recommend making the transfer yourself to your other joint account and once the balance is zero on the account you'd like to close, you can also send us a Secure Message via your Online Banking account. Please note that we'll need your specific request to close the account and account number in your message. To do so, please log in at http://bit.ly/1eaISlq. Once you have done so, locate the Customer Service tab at the top right, and then click on Send a Message. Please submit your inquiry and a friendly Representative will respond shortly.
We hope this helps Meredith. Please let us know if you have any other banking questions!
