Hi Sylvia! Thanks for reaching out to us at TD Helps.
If your TD Bank account is a joint account with your boyfriend, he can come in to close it at any time. The only document he'll need is his photo ID. If he is not also a signer on the account, he won't be able to close it for you.
If your account is in your name only, you have a couple of options.
If the balance is at zero, we can close it for you by phone or by request through a secure message from your online banking.
If there is still a balance in your account, we recommend that you bring it to a zero balance by withdrawing all available funds or writing yourself a check and depositing it into your account there. To withdraw all available funds, you can visit a bank where you are in Europe and request to do a cash advance with the teller using your debit card. We do not charge a fee for this service, but we recommend inquiring with the bank there, as they may.
Whether you do a cash advance or write yourself a check, you'll need to wait until this transaction clears and your account balance is zero. Once the balance is zero, you can call us or send us a secure message to close the account. To send a secure message, log into your TD Bank online profile by clicking here: https://go.td.com/1eaISlq. Once you've successfully logged in, look for the 'Message Center' on the left hand side and select 'Send a secure message'. From your Mobile Banking, log in and select 'Send a Secure Message' from the side Menu. We can generally respond within 24 hours or less. To call us from outside the United States, use country code 011 at 1-856-751-9000, or collect with operator assistance from a land line phone by asking the operator to dial 1-215-569-0518. We're available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to look into this for you.
You also have the option of requesting your account closed by mailing your written, signed, and notarized request to your home Store where your account was opened. Please be sure to provide your account numbers so we can issue you a check for the remaining balance in your account, as well as your final statement. To get the address of the Store where you opened your account, please click here: https://go.td.com/1nq31dc to find that location. You may also call us at the numbers we provided above.
We hope that this info helps. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions at all.
Have a great day, Sylvia!
