I have to deposit a check I received from TD Canada Trust. I am in the USA and not a current TD customer.
If I open a TD bank account, how long would it take for the check to clear? Does the fact that it is from Canada delay the process?
Can I cash a check in the USA from TD Canada Trust?

Thanks for reaching out to us, Eric and great question. We'll be more than happy to respond.
First, we'd like to let you know that foreign checks must be sent for collection. These cannot be cashed at our Stores and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
If you would like to open an account and deposit this item, we would be more than happy to have you and we'll be glad to provide some additional information.
It's possible for foreign checks to take longer to clear your account than a check drawn from a U.S. institution. We would like to let you know that because the check you have is drawn on TD Canada Trust in particular, depending on the amount this could become available sooner than other foreign items and we invite you to discuss this time frame in better detail with a Representative at a local TD Bank Store. We also invite you to take a look at our Personal Account Agreement for more details about our funds availability policy: http://bit.ly/1kb17UQ (pages 38-41).
Additionally, there may be fees for the deposit of a foreign check. To take a look at any fees that may apply, please visit http://bit.ly/1cTejgt.
If you decide that you may be interested in banking with us, we encourage you to review our account options. Our Checking accounts can be found here: http://bit.ly/1oXjGgF, or use our checking selector at http://bit.ly/1vW1xnU. And our Savings products are listed here: http://bit.ly/1hzzhPT, or use our savings selector at http://bit.ly/1sxY9Rd.
To open an account, you are more than welcome to visit any TD Bank Store listed here: http://bit.ly/TDStores, at which time you can also deposit the check. Or, feel free to give us a call 24/7 at 888-751-9000 to start the account, or open it online using any of the product links above.
Whichever method you choose, you'll just need your Social Security number and a valid photo ID such as a Driver's License, State ID or Passport.
Hope this helps answer your questions, Eric and thanks again for writing in! We look forward to hearing from you soon.
