Thank you for stopping by TD Helps with your question, Paul. We understand your concerns and the importance of security for your debit card purchases.
We appreciate your attention to your account security. At this time, we do not offer embedded microchip cards. TD Bank offers customers multiple layers of security protection against fraud, and has tools in place to monitor for suspicious activity. We monitor cards for unusual activity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will reach out to you if fraud is suspected. For additional safety, we encourage you to visit http://bit.ly/1npPddy for tips to protect your accounts.
Please note that approximately 97% of international merchants at this time will accept your magstripe-only card. However, it’s good to have an alternate form of payment (i.e. cash) if your magstripe-only card is not accepted.
Since you are travelling to Europe here are a few a tips to manage your money when traveling: http://bit.ly/1fO8wKy. When making an ATM withdrawal from an international location, please make sure that the ATM machine displays either the VISA or PLUS logo. The TD Bank Debit Card may also be used to obtain a VISA Cash Advance if a compatible ATM is not available. Please note non-TD ATM fees still may apply. Many ATMs outside the United States limit withdrawals to checking accounts only, TD Bank Online can be used to transfer money from your savings account to your checking account should more funds be needed.
If you need to call us while you're outside the United States you may do so by dialing 856-751-9000 or collect with operator's assistance from a land line phone by asking the operator to dial 215-569-0518.
