I just opened my account online and haven't made an initial deposit yet. If I sign up for direct deposit will that count for my first deposit? Or do I have to make an initial deposit before the account is fully activated?

Thanks for opening an account with us, Sandra! We'd be happy to help.
You are able to use a direct deposit as your initial deposit! You are able to provide your employer with your account number and routing number in order to schedule a direct deposit. You may also use our Direct Deposit Authorization Form, which can be found here: http://bit.ly/1hLQ1cP.
For direct deposits, funds are available to you on the date designated by your depositor. These types of deposits are processed overnight at varying times and will be available for use once processing is complete. We invite you to look at our Personal Deposit Account Agreement here: http://bit.ly/1kb17UQ. On pages 38-41 you can find our Funds Availability Policy along with information about when you'll have access to deposits.
Please note, if you've just started your direct deposit with your employer and haven't received a deposit yet, please keep in mind that direct deposits generally take 1-2 payment cycles to begin. Usually, they will test the account first with a zero dollar deposit to make sure all your account information is correct.
If you have any other questions please let us know here, by calling us 24/7 by dialing 888-751-9000 or by visiting any TD Store during lobby hours. For Store hours and locations near you please visit http://bit.ly/TDStores.
We hope this helps, Sandra and have a great day!
