Good morning, Megan,
We appreciate you reaching out to us and please accept our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
We'll do our best to provide you with the information you'll need so that this process will be as smooth as possible for you.
First, we'd like to let you know that an Executor or an Administrator of a decedent’s estate may access the account. In order to access or close the account of a deceased Customer, the Executor or Administrator must provide documentation at a TD Bank Store. We apologize for any inconveniences at this time, as this cannot be completed via fax.
When visiting one of our Stores, the following documents can be provided by the Executor/ Administrator: their photo identification, copy of the Death Certificate, an original Certificate of Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration with raised seal dated within 60 days, and a Letter of Instructions signed by all the Executors or Administrators with signature guaranteed by another financial institution. The death certificate will provide date of death if the date-of-death balance for the account is requested. As these documents can vary by State, we recommend calling your preferred TD Bank Store prior to your visit, and a representative will be able to advise you of what you will need when you stop in. Kindly note that you should visit a Store in the State in which the decedent lived for assistance.
If this happens to be regarding a joint account you have with the deceased person, the surviving joint owner can still access the account. A deceased owner’s name can be removed from a checking, money market or savings account without closing the account after the surviving account owner signs and completes the correct documentation at a TD Bank Store location.
Once the appropriate documentation as above is on file, we can take care of any maintenance you may need for the account.
Please see a listing of our TD Bank Store locations, including hours and contact information here: http://bit.ly/TDStores. If you have any questions about this process, we recommend calling the Store you intend to visit. We can also be reached 24/7 at 888-751-9000, if you have any questions or would like to make an appointment.
Thanks again for getting in touch with us, Megan.
