Good afternoon, Emily and thanks for including us as you begin your travel preparations! We'll be happy to discuss this with you.
You'll be glad to know that if you have a Visa Debit card with your Student Checking account, you'll be able to use this at locations worldwide that use the Visa or NYCE networks! In order to be certain that your card will work as expected, we recommend contacting us with your travel information before your trip to prevent any decline to your cards while you're away. You can do so by calling our Customer Service Line 24/7 at 888-751-9000, and we will be happy to place your travel notification. If you have already left the country, please call us from outside the United States via phone at 1-856-751-9000, or collect with operator assistance from a land line phone by asking the operator to dial 1-215-569-0518.
Another easy way to set a travel notification, especially if you have already left, is to send us a Secure Message from your TD Bank Online Banking account. Please log in here: http://bit.ly/1eaISlq with your User Name and Password. You can then send us a secure message by clicking on the Customer Service tab and using the Send a Message link. Please include your exact travel dates, destinations and any connecting flight information if applicable.
Since you asked about fees, first we'd like to let you know that TD Bank does not charge any foreign transactions fees for purchases made with your TD Bank Visa debit card. We would like to take the opportunity to advise you about fees that can be incurred while using international ATMs.
Each withdrawal, transfer, and balance inquiry made at an ATM not owned by TD is subject to a $3.00 fee at this time, which is charged by TD Bank the same day the transaction is made (fees subject to change). This may be in addition to any fee assessed by the owner of the ATM or network, and may include fees for both withdrawals and balance inquiries. Please check out: http://bit.ly/1cTejgt for our current Fee Schedule.
If you use any ATM in a foreign country, you may also incur international, currency exchange and usage fees regardless of the type of account you have at TD Bank. Please refer to http://bit.ly/1kb17UQ (pg. 45) for more information about what type of fees to expect.
Please keep in mind, a travel notification helps us recognize unauthorized transactions on your account. Please be informed that for your protection we will continue to monitor your card activity even when a notification is set. We also recommend carrying more than one method of payment while traveling, just in case you encounter any acceptance issues. For more travel tips while overseas, please visit http://bit.ly/1gDrDYu. We hope you have a fantastic time, Emily! Thanks again for writing in and safe travels to you.
