We have two cheqeues from united states treasury to pay in . one is in my wifes name and one in mine. the td bank account is in my name only . would we need to open a new account in my wifes name to pay check in . we are visitng new york in october this year , would like to pay checks in then can we do that . Also need a new debit card for our holiday in new york. thanks

Thanks for writing in today, Mark. We'll be glad to provide you with more information regarding depositing checks.
As you mentioned that the checks in question are government checks, these must deposited into an account titled in the same name of the "Payable to" Party on the front of the check. Therefore, it will be necessary for your wife to open an account in order to deposit the check issued to her.
