I would like to know the procedures to close my checking account

Hi Megan, thanks for coming by TD Helps. We would hate to lose you as customer however, we'd be happy to help.
Please note, if you're closing your account due to moving far from a TD Store, we have options to maintain your account. TD Bank offers Bill Pay, Online, and Mobile Banking. Check http://bit.ly/1lnLZE5 for more details. If you are dissatisfied with the account type you have, take a look at http://bit.ly/KmmHe7 to see if there is an account that can better suit your needs.
If you still want to close your account and you have a current balance, we ask that you visit us at any TD Store for further assistance regarding your request. When you visit a TD Store to request to close your account, all you need to bring with you is a valid photo ID (Driver's License, Passport, Military I.D. etc.).. Please note, because there is a current balance, please let the Specialists know and they will assist you with withdrawing the fund than assist with your initial request.
If your account has a zero balance and do not live close to a TD Store, there are several options you can go about closing your account. Your first option is to contact Customer Service and our Banking Specialists at 1-888-751-9000, available 24/7. You can also send us a secure message via your Online Banking. If you have not enrolled, you can do so for free by following this link: http://bit.ly/1lU2qfY. You will need your account number, Social Security number, your email address and your current TD ATM/Debit card. If you run into any problems enrolling or if you do not have a TD ATM/Debit card to enroll online, please call us 24/7 at 800-493-7562 to speak with our Digital Banking Specialists. Once you've successfully enrolled and after you log onto your Online Banking, on the left hand side, you should see and option to "Send a secure message" located in the “Message Center. As always, you can also stop by any TD Store for this request.
Another option would be requesting your account to be closed by mail. Please mail your written, signed, and notarized request to:
TD Bank, N.A.
(Home Store Address)
(Home Branch Telephone Number)
Please be sure to provide your account number so we may issue you a check for the remaining funds in your account as well as your final statement. If you are unsure of which Store is your Home Store, take a look at http://bit.ly/TDStores for hours and locations or please contact our Customer Service line at the telephone number listed above.

I am contacting you to know what should I do to cancel my accounts with TD Bank, savings and credit card. I'm away of Canada so please send me details on how this could be done and what paperwork is required.
I have enjoyed the great service of TD Bank but I wont need it any longer.

I have put my minimum amounts for waiving my monthly fee. But, if I withdraw all the money to close the account, would they still charge the monthly fee since it falls below the minimum amounts?? Thank you.

Maintenance fees are applied to your account on the last day of your statement period. You are able to confirm your statement period by contacting our Banking Specialists 24/7 at 888-751-9000. They would be glad to confirm your statement close date with you in order to avoid any maintenance fee charges. If your account is at a $0.00 balance at the time of your call, our Banking Specialists will also be able to finalize your account during your call.
You are also able to finalize your account by visiting any TD Store during lobby hours. To take a look at TD Stores near you please visit http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Please know that if your account is held by TD Canada Trust, the procedures to close an account may vary. If I close my TD checking account, can I still keep my TD HELOC and access to Easyweb for my other TD products such as mortgage?

I currently have a chequing account with TD Bank (USA), with a balance, and I would like to close my account as I no longer need to use it. I am located in Canada and I would like to transfer my balance to my TD Canada Trust (Canada) account, and close my TD Bank (USA) account. What are the possible options to make this happen?

As you've mentioned that you bank with both TD Bank and TD Canada Trust, you are able to call our Cross Border Banking Specialists to schedule a wire transfer to debit the funds from your account. They are available 24/7 at 877-700-2913.
Once your account balance reflects $0.00 our Specialists are able to close your account. You are able to reach out using the number mentioned above or by sending a secure message. To send a secure message you must first logon to your TD Bank online profile. You can do so by clicking here: http://go.td.com/1eaISlq. On the left hand side, you should see an option to "Send a secure message" located in the “Message Center."

Thanks Katherine. As i am overseas, Its not possible to visit the branch any more. So I can probably place the account closure request through message center. Could you please confirm if i transfer entire money from account to other checking account and then place the closing request, will i be charged monthly service fee?

You may certainly send your request via secure message to close your account, once your balance is zero. We encourage you to send the message as soon as your balance is zero, to avoid any maintenance fees from being assessed to your account.
You may also check your prior statements to confirm the date of your statement cycle, to see when your maintenance fee would be assessed if your balance remains under the minimum daily balance requirement for an extended amount of time.
