Hi, James and thank you for allowing us to assist you on TD Helps. We apologize for your loss, we know it must be a tough time so we want to make this process as easy as possible for you.
In the unfortunate event of a Customer’s death, it is important for TD Bank to assist the family and/or the Executor/Administrator with our Customer’s account(s). An Executor or an Administrator of a decedent’s estate may access the account.
In order to access the account or close the account of the deceased Customer, the Executor or Administrator must provide the following documentations to a TD Bank Store: Photo identification, Copy of the Death Certificate, and an original Certificate of Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration with raised seal dated within 60 days; and a Letter of Instructions signed by all the Executors or Administrators with signature guaranteed by another financial institution. The death certificate will provide date of death if the date-of-death balance for the account is requested.
Or, this is regarding a joint account you have with the deceased person, the surviving joint owner can still access the account. A deceased owner’s name can be removed from a checking, money market or savings account without closing the account after the surviving account owner signs and completes the correct documentation at a TD Bank Store location.
Once the appropriate documentation as above is on file, we can take care of any maintenance needed for the account as well as close any related debit cards on file.
Please see a listing of our TD Bank Store locations, including hours and contact information here: http://bit.ly/TDStores. If you have any questions about this process, we recommend calling your preferred TD Bank Store prior to your visit, and a representative will be happy to assist you. We can also be reached 24/7 at 888-751-9000, if you have any questions or would like to make an appointment.
We hope this information is helpful for you, James. Please don't hesitate to contact us again with any other questions you have and all the best to you.
