Thank you for reaching out to us on TD Helps this afternoon, Editha! We'll be sure to go over the ways that you can close a joint account.
You'll be glad to know that joint accounts can be closed by either owner of the account without the other signer being present. In order to close your joint account, the account must have a zero balance. You may use your debit card, withdraw the funds from a TD Bank ATM or write a personal check for the remaining balance. Once you've reached a zero balance in the account in question, you can give us a call 24/7 at 888-751-9000, visit any TD Bank during lobby hours or send us a secure message through online banking to request the closure of your account. Click here: http://bit.ly/TDStores to find a TD Bank near you.
Please note that it can take up to 72 hours for your account to be closed.
Hope this helps and let us know if you have any questions, Editha! Take care and have a great night.
