Hi Theresa, it's great seeing today at TD Helps!
When making check deposits with a Teller, the first $100.00 is made available immediately. The rest of the funds are usually credited to your account on the following business day. If you are a new account holder and your account has not been open for 30 consecutive days, Check Deposits can be held up to 7 business days for verification purposes. After this grace period, not only will the first $100.00 be available at the time of the deposit, but the rest of the funds will credit to your account the following business day.
As you mentioned that you're depositing a certified check, you'll be glad to learn that funds from the first $5,000 of a day's total deposit of cashier's, certified, teller's, traveler's, and federal, state, and local government checks will be available on the first business day after the day of your deposit. Please keep in mind, if you make a deposit at TD Bank before 8:00 PM on that business day, it would be considered a deposit on that business day. A business day is every day except for Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays. For weekend deposits, this usually means that the deposit will be considered Monday's deposit and will post to your account on Tuesday.
We invite you to take a look at our Personal Deposit Account Agreement here: http://bit.ly/1kb17UQ, which can explain our deposit availability policy in full detail for you. Please take note of pages 40-41, where you can find our Funds Availability Policy specifically the Special Rules for certified checks along with information about when you'll have access to deposit.
You may also feel free to contact us 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or visit your local TD Bank Store for any additional assistance. For help locating a TD Store near you, please look at: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
We hope this helps, Theresa. Have a wonderful week.
