Hi Lucie. Thanks for coming to TD Helps with your question.
When a non-TD Bank ATM is used, a fee can be charged. This fee is separate from any fee the other bank or ATM company may charge and is the same whether in the United States or a foreign country. At this time, the fee for using a non-TD Bank ATM is $3.00. This is subject to change. We encourage you to check out the Personal Fee Schedule by clicking here: https://go.td.com/2kFZ5mK for up-to-date info.
We want to let you know that with some of our accounts, non-TD Bank ATM fees are waived as a benefit of that account type. We may even waive the fees charged by the ATM company! You'll find info in the link above about which accounts qualify for that fee waiver and the requirements to have foreign fees waived as well. You may already have one of those accounts!
If you do not have one of those accounts that include the non-TD Bank ATM fee waiver but are interested in switching, we want to provide you with some links to review those accounts in detail. To check out all of our checking accounts for an account with this benefit that might also fit your needs, please click here: https://go.td.com/2tX7kAh. To review our savings accounts, please click here: https://go.td.com/2bSlkVn. If you choose to change your account type, we'd be happy to help. It’s a quick change that will not affect your account or debit card number. Just give us a call 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or stop in to see us at any of our Stores. To find one near you, please click here: https://go.td.com/1nq31dc. You can also send us a secure message with your request through your online or mobile banking. To send a secure message, log into your TD Bank online profile by clicking here: https://go.td.com/1eaISlq. Once you've successfully logged in, look for the 'Message Center' on the left hand side and select 'Send a secure message'. From your Mobile Banking, log in and select 'Send a Secure Message' from the side Menu. We can generally respond within 24 hours or less.
We also want to provide you with options to avoid non-TD Bank ATM fees while you're traveling in Mexico.
Many stores now offer you the option of receiving cash back when you make a purchase. TD Bank does not charge a fee for this service. The amount you take back in cash is simply added to your total purchase.
You may also be able to use your TD Bank Visa Debit Card to do a cash advance with a bank teller at a bank in Mexico. To do this, visit a bank where you are and request to do a Visa Cash Advance with the teller. Your card will be used to withdraw funds and that transaction should post to your account as a Visa purchase, rather than a withdrawal. While TD Bank does not charge a fee for doing this type of transaction, we recommend confirming with the bank that you use if they charge a fee to perform this service.
Finally, if you haven't done so already, we recommend that you update us with your travel plans so that we can notate your account and debit card. This will help to prevent any blocks or declined transactions while you're away. You can reach out to us by phone, in-Store, or through secure message to have your account notated with your destination and travel dates.
We hope this info helps, Lucie. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to give us a call at the number above and we'd be happy to help.
We hope you have an incredible time in Mexico!
