I want to know when my risk on the check has expired and I can return the fund to my open balance without paying a stop payment fee.

Thanks so much for your visit to TD Helps today, Daniel and great question. We are glad to advise you about stale-dated checks.
Checks that are more than 6 months old are considered "stale-dated," but are still eligible for negotiation by TD Bank.
Please take note that stale-dated checks drawn on TD Bank may still be cashed after we verify the status of the account and check for a stop payment order. If a stop payment is not found, it is possible that the check may be presented to your account for payment even if six months or more have passed.
If you do not want this check to be negotiated, we do recommend using a stop payment to ensure that the funds are not paid. Depending on the type of account you have, it is possible that any stop payment fee may be waived. Please review our Fee Schedule at http://bit.ly/1cTejgt to determine if your account type would waive this fee.
Should you have any questions at all, our friendly Customer Service Representatives are available 24/7 at 1-888-751-9000 to assist you, or you are always welcome at our TD Bank Stores. Please see http://bit.ly/TDStores for a listing of our locations and hours near you.
We hope this information is helpful, Daniel. Have a great rest of your day!
