We appreciate you coming to TD Helps with your question, Katianna. Studying abroad is exciting, and we hope you enjoy the experience!
When traveling, you can make an ATM withdrawal from any machine that displays the VISA or PLUS logo. Some things to keep in mind when using an ATM when traveling:
- Each withdrawal, transfer, and balance inquiry made by at an ATM not owned by TD is subject to a $3.00 fee, which is charged by TD Bank the same day the transaction is made.
- The owner of the machine or network may assess a fee at the time of your transaction, including a fee for balance inquiries, in addition to any fees assessed by TD Bank.
- If you use any ATM in a foreign country, you may also incur international, currency exchange and usage fees regardless of the type of account you have at TD Bank.
We encourage you to check out our current fee schedule, http://bit.ly/1cTejgt, as it details any applicable fees that may come into play when you use your debit card out of the country. If you are unable to find an ATM that is compatible, with the TD Bank Debit Card, it may be used to obtain a VISA Cash Advance.
Before travelling, we recommend placing a Travel Notification on your account(s) before your trip to avoid any possible interruptions and this will also help us be aware if we see foreign transactions being made on your account. You can do so by calling our Customer Service Line at 888-751-9000 or visiting a local TD Bank Store. To find a TD Bank near you, we ask that you check out: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
If you are enrolled for online banking, another option would be to send a secured message using www.tdbank.com and request the Travel Notifications be added to your account(s). To send a secured message you must first log onto your TD Bank Online profile. You can do so by clicking here: http://bit.ly/1eaISlq. On the left hand side, you should see and option to "Send a secure message" located in the “Message Center.” Please also include in the secured message the dates that you will be abroad. If you are not enrolled for online banking, you can do so for free here: http://bit.ly/1lU2qfY. You will need your Social Security number, TD Bank ATM/Visa Debit Card, his account number, and his e-mail address. Once you have successfully enrolled, you will have immediate access to your account(s).
Additionally, we also recommend carrying more than one method of payment while traveling, just in case you encounter any acceptance issues. For more travel tips while overseas, please visit http://bit.ly/1gDrDYu.
If you have any questions while you are traveling internationally, you can reach us at (856)-751-9000. Additionally, you can call collect from a landline at (215)-569-0518.
Hope this answers your question, and we wish you luck on your education endeavors!
