Thanks for reaching out to us today, Ian.
Since you mention in your message that you've been unable to visit a TD Bank, we'd like to make you aware that your account may have become inactive or dormant. We'll tell you a bit more about account statuses below.
Activity would be required for an account in order to maintain an Active status. If no transactions (deposits or withdrawals) are initiated by you on an account it will be considered Inactive after a specified period of time. Savings accounts are automatically changed to an inactive status after nine months of no Customer-initiated activity, and Checking accounts become inactive after six months. These accounts can also become Dormant after three or five years of no activity depending on your region or State.
You might also like to check out the article listed here: http://1.usa.gov/1ED20S9, which reviews information about abandoned or unclaimed accounts in the U.S. Please keep in mind that once an account becomes dormant, it can be turned over to the State in which the account was opened.
It will be necessary to determine the status on your account to better advise you of your options. If it is inactive or dormant, you'll be able to access the funds once it has been returned to an active status. Although we won't be able to authorize a transfer via writing, we'll be able to give you some ideas for accessing your funds once we've reviewed your account with you.
To do so, we recommend that you get in touch with your Home Store for assistance in accessing your account. We apologize that we don't have any Stores in the areas you mentioned for your travel. For a listing of our current Stores including their contact information and lobby hours, please see http://go.td.com/1f9DSJR. You may also contact our Banking Specialists available 24/7 at 888-751-9000, and we will be able to access your account, and connect you with your Home Store.
Have a wonderful week, Ian!
