periodically to pay our gas, telephone, power, etc bills which we would like to have come out of our account automatically each month ie. we would like to register our US account with these utility companies so they can automatically withdraw funds to pay the utility bills. There are about 5 utility type bills and we write about 3 cheques per month. What type of account is most cost effective for us to open.

Hi Frank, thanks for reaching out to TD Helps with this question. It's great to hear that you're interested in opening an account with us!
All of our Checking Accounts offer our free TD Bank Online Bill Pay service through our website www.tdbank.com. After opening an account, you can setup one-time or reoccurring payments to pay your bills to any company or individual. Also, if you bank with us on both sides of the border, we allow you to make Me-to-Me wire transfers to send money back and forth between your accounts at no cost to you!
As far as opening the account, you have several options to do so depending on your Citizenship. If you are a Canadian Citizen, then you can reach out to a Cross-Border Banking Specialist at 877-700-2913 anytime day or night. Our Cross-Border Banking Specialists are available 24/7 to meet your banking needs and help you set up a Cross-Border account. We can also link your new U.S. account to an existing TD Canada Trust account that you have already. Or, if you'd prefer, you can follow this link to open a Cross-Border account online: http://bit.ly/1ienPN4 . You'll just need your Canadian Passport and Canadian Driver's License and in just about 12 minutes you can setup an account and it's ready to use the next business day!
Also, if you're traveling and can make it into a TD Bank Store (in America), you can always open an account in person. We have Stores all along the East Coast spanning from Maine to Florida and you can locate the nearest one here: http://bit.ly/TDStores. Just bring your Passport and Driver's License with you.
For more detailed information about our accounts, please refer to our Deposit Account Agreement found here: http://bit.ly/1kb17UQ . You can also review the Fee Schedule for all of our accounts here: http://bit.ly/1cTejgt.
If you happen to be a U.S. Citizen and have a U.S. Driver's License and Social Security Number, then you can reach out to a Banking Specialist by phone at 888-751-9000 if unable to make it into a TD Store location. Our Specialists are available 24/7 to assist you with setting up your account. Please have your Driver's License and Social Security Number available when you call.
We hope this helps Frank. Have a great day!
