Welcome to the TD Helps Community, Brian. We are happy to help.
TD Customers may deposit Canadian Dollar Checks at any of our TD Bank Stores during lobby hours. Canadian Dollar Checks over $5,000 (U.S. Currency Equivalent) will be held for verification purposes and may be subject to a $17.50 per check fee. Please note fees are subject to change. For more information on our Funds Availability please view: https://go.td.com/1kb17UQ (pages 38-41).To find a nearby TD Store please view our locator here: https://go.td.com/1nq31dc.
Please keep in mind, rates used for currency conversion are provided by TD Bank traders. We do not use rates printed by third parties in newspapers or published online.
For your protection, the item should be hand delivered to a Store and not mailed. Please do not deposit foreign checks by using the ATM.
There are a few ways to open new accounts online. To open a new Checking Account online, we encourage you to take a quick look and review our checking products here: https://go.td.com/2aHjRCr, or use our Checking Account Selector at https://go.td.com/1vW1xnU. And to begin your application, you may use the Open Account button at these links to start, or please click here: https://go.td.com/2m7miCQ.
Please note when starting a new account application, you'll need your Social Security number and a valid personal identification such as a Driver's license, State ID, or Passport. If you open your account online, you can make your first deposit using a debit or credit card (Visa or MasterCard), or fund the account with a transfer from another deposit account you may have, using the routing and account numbers. You're also welcome to make your first deposit in person, and please see our Store Locator at https://go.td.com/1nq31dc to find your closest Store.
You're always welcome to open a new account by phone, or if you have any questions about our checking accounts or the opening process, feel free to give us a call 24/7 at 1-888-751-9000 to speak with one of our dedicated Customer Service Representatives. They will be more than happy to help you, and if you open the account by phone, your Representative will be happy to provide convenient deposit options for you.
Typically, you should expect to receive your welcome kits via mail within 7-10 business days of your account opening date. Additionally, if you chose to receive a TD Debit Card during the account opening process, you should also expect to receive it via mail within 7-10 business days. Please note, for security reasons your card will be mailed in a white envelope.
If it has been more than 7-10 business days and you have yet to receive your welcome kits and TD Debit card, we apologize for the inconvenience; please give us a call at 888-751-9000, available 24. After account verification, we'd be happy to help! You may also visit us during lobby hours for additional assistance. Our Specialists can provide a welcome kit and also print out a new TD Debit card for you right there! Please keep in mind, if you request your card at the Store, please let the Specialist know to close the card you are expecting via mail.
We hope this information helps, and please take care.

Two replies to the answer. I have a California address, and to open a new account online it seems I need an East coast address. The other thing is since i do live in california will i be able to deposit the check via a mobile app by taking a photo of the check on the app?

Welcome back, Brian.
Please know that if you are unable to open an account online, you are more than welcome to do so over the phone using the number Alara provides above.
In regard to making a Canadian check deposit, we apologize as foreign checks are ineligible for Mobile Deposit at this time. This check would either need to be deposited at a TD Store or mailed in using our Bank by Mail service. All you would need to do is mail your deposit to the address below:
TD Bank, N.A. ME2-001-033 P.O. Box Number 1190 Lewiston, Maine 04243
The P.O. Box is checked daily and transactions are posted the same day.
If you need to Fed-EX or UPS a mail in a Deposit to us, you can ship it to the address below:
TD Bank Bank by Mail 140 Mill Street Lewiston ME 04243
Here are some additional tips to consider prior to mailing your deposit:
- Cash should not be sent through the mail
- Payee of the check and name on deposit ticket should be the same
- Checks should be endorsed (and restricted "for deposit only")
- Multiple checks should be listed and a total of the deposit listed
- Enclose the deposit ticket, not the carbon copy
- If using a blank deposit ticket, please write the account number clearly
- Do not staple transactions
We hope this helps and have a good afternoon.
