write an online check, wait for him to receive it, and then wait for him to deposit it? I imagine there may be an inter-bank payment/transfer option available that would be quicker. Please advise.

Great question, Della, and thanks for stopping by TD Helps for your answer. We are happy to assist you!
Based on the information you provided, we are happy to inform you that our Person-to-Person payment service may best fit your needs. It will allow you to transfer funds from your TD Bank Account into another TD Customer's account.
In order to be eligible to use the Person-to-Person payment service, you must have a United States address, a unique United States phone number, a United States issued Social Security number and a valid unique email address. You must also be enrolled for Online Banking and be using a TD Bank personal Checking or Money Market account for the transfer.
If you have met all the requirements listed above and are also enrolled for Online Banking, you’ll need to be logged in from here http://bit.ly/1eaISlq in order to initiate a Person-to-Person payment:
- First, you must enroll in the service. To do so, you would select the tab that says Person-to-Person payments at the top of your Online Banking screen.
- Then, you will be asked to accept a user agreement, review the fee schedule and confirm your email and phone number. A text and email code will be sent to the mobile number and email address we have on file for you.
- Next we will request you to submit both codes for verification to complete the enrollment process.
You will have two delivery options when sending a Person-to-Person payment; there is the three business day option and the next business day delivery. Please note, the next day delivery option is not available for savings accounts. To qualify for the next day delivery option, you must wait 90 days from your first successful 3-day transfer and must not have had any transactions that overdrew your account in the past 90 days. There may be fees for the use of the above service. We invite you to take a look at our Fee Schedule here: http://bit.ly/1cTejgt. You’re welcome to check out http://bit.ly/1pADlWD for all of the exciting details.
If you are not currently enrolled for Online Banking and wish to do so for your Personal Checking account, you may use our self-service option by visiting http://bit.ly/1lU2qfY to begin the enrollment process. You will need your account number, TD Bank ATM/Debit Card, your Social Security Number and your email address. Once at the page, please select "Personal" from the drop down box. When you select continue, you will have to read and accept the Online Banking Service Agreement. Then you will be asked to enter your personal information including the items mentioned earlier and to create a user name and password. Finally you will be asked to create three security questions. When you finish the enrollment process, you will have immediate access to your account(s).
If you do not have the required information to set up for Online Banking or you need assistance enrolling, you may contact us 24/7 at 1-888-751-9000 to speak with a Banking Specialist. Upon proper account verification, we would be happy to help get you started.
If Person-to-Person Payment is not an option for you or you have a TD Bank Business account, you can still make a deposit to another TD Bank account. There are several ways for you to make deposits into a TD Bank account. One way you could make a deposit would be by visiting a TD Bank location with cash and the other TD Customer's account number. Please visit http://bit.ly/TDStores to find the TD Bank location closest to you. Another way to make a deposit would be to make a check payable to the individual and write “for deposit only” with his or her account number on the back of the check. Regardless of the option you choose, the deposit can be processed with a Teller in the Lobby or Drive-thru at any TD Bank location. When making the deposit directly into the other account, there is no charge to you.
Please reach out to us again though if you have any further questions. Have a great day!
