Good afternoon, Janet!
Thanks so much for writing in to us today.
In order to update the account your direct deposit is made to, you'll want to contact Social Security directly. However, we can help you with this transition – we do have a Direct Deposit Authorization Form available for you to present to them. This is available for download at http://bit.ly/1sSvhT6, or you can stop in at any of our Stores to pick one up.
To fill out the form, you'll just need your account number and routing number, and we're happy to help you locate this info if you don't already have it.
If you have some checks for your checking account, your account number is located on the bottom right of your check. Please see http://bit.ly/1qH2i2K for an example. The routing number is indicated there as well.
In addition, if you receive paper statements for your account, your account number is located in the top right corner of your statement.
If you don't have either of these nearby, don't worry because we have more options for you. Another easy way to locate your account number is to log in to your TD Bank Online Banking account at http://bit.ly/1eaISlq. Once you log in, you will be brought to the Accounts tab, which lists any accounts you have and their full account numbers. Please keep in mind that if you are already banking online and use the TD Mobile App on your phone or other device, it would be necessary to log in to our full site at the link above to view your account number.
If you don't bank online with TD Bank yet, you are more than welcome to contact a Banking Specialist 24/7 at 888-751-9000, who can enroll you after account verification during your call.
If you didn’t locate your routing number using your check as indicated above, you can also locate that number on our list. Please note that your routing number was assigned based on the State where you originally opened your account. For a list of our routing numbers by State, please visit: http://bit.ly/1cmRPoF.
Otherwise, to obtain any of this information you are welcome to visit any TD Bank Store location during our convenient lobby hours. Please find a Store near you at http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Once you have updated this information and your checking account is receiving your deposits, you may close your savings if you prefer. Please reach us using any of the methods listed above once your savings balance is zero, and we can place your closing request for you.
Janet, we hope this covers it for you!
Please let us know about other questions and have a great afternoon.
