It's a pleasure to have you here on TD Helps, Renee.
Currently, to cash a check that is not drawn off a TD Account, you must be a TD Customer with a Deposit account (such as Checking, Savings, or Money Market account) and have sufficient funds in the account to cover the amount of the non-TD check.
As you currently are not a TD Customer, you may wish to open an account with TD Bank. We offer many different types of Checking accounts. Prior to opening an account we encourage you to view and compare our checking accounts, visit: http://bit.ly/Wczmq0 or check out our Checking Selector Tool: http://bit.ly/1vW1xnU for help selecting a checking account that is the best fit you.
There are several ways to open an account with us: online, over the phone, or in person. The documents that you will need to open the account are the following: Your Social Security number and ID (driver's license, State ID, or Passport).
To open a Checking account, you may apply Online by visiting: www.tdbank.com or click here: http://bit.ly/1fN7u4i to take you directly to the account opening application. To make a first deposit online, you may use a debit card linked to an account from another financial institution, a credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or you can stop by your local TD Store to make a deposit. To open the account over the phone, you may call us directly 24/7 at 888-751-9000 and you will have up to 30 business days to make your initial deposit.
Finally, you have the option of visiting us at your local TD Store to open an account. If you choose this option, you will need to make an initial deposit to the account you selected. There would not be a minimum requirement to open the account; however, some accounts have requirements in order to have certain fees waived. We would encourage you to review the link above prior to visiting a Store. For hours and locations near you, take a look here: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Hope this helps and take care.
