that I may transfer funds directly without having to pay a fee to my current bank for the transfer and have - hopefully - a break on the exchange rate to convert from CDN to USD. I've checked and there seem to be no TD banks here in Atlanta, so I'd like to talk with someone at TD to learn what options may be available.. Thank you.

Thanks for joining us here at TD Helps, Larry. We appreciate you considering TD Bank for your banking needs and would be happy to help provide some information.
As you already have a TD Canada Trust account, once you open a US account with us at TD Bank, you may then take advantage of our Cross-Border Banking feature. One of the benefits to having both a TD Bank and TD Canada Trust account is being able to transfer funds between your own accounts for free! Please visit http://bit.ly/1ienPN4 for more information on Cross Border Banking. You can also contact a Cross Border Banking Specialist 24/7 at 877-700-2913 (press 1 for Canadian Support, 2 for US Support). A dedicated Cross-Border Banking Specialist can assist you in making the transfer.
Because you are located in Atlanta, you may still open an account with us by calling us directly at 888-751-9000. Our Specialists are available 24/7 and would be happy to answer any additional questions and help with the account opening.
Prior to calling us, we do recommend reviewing the different types of accounts TD Bank offers. Please click here: http://bit.ly/Wczmq0 for a list of checking accounts and here: http://bit.ly/1l6nLQ7 for savings accounts. You can get a personalized checking account recommendation by clicking here: http://bit.ly/1vW1xnU and here: http://bit.ly/1vW1DvM for a personalized savings account recommendation.
We hope this helps Larry. Have a wonderful day and please let us know if you have any other banking questions.

Thank you for your reply and for clarifying that there is a way to work with TD on cross-border transactions. Unfortunately due to the time crunch for having such a U.S. account in place by last Friday, I'm unable to take advantage of having a TD account here and there. Perhaps late this year I will reconsider that option, but I'm unable to exercise it at this time.
