You've asked a great question that many of our cross-border customers wonder about, Alina. It's our pleasure to help you today.
Since you mentioned having a Canadian TD Visa card and that you're in Scarborough, if you're a Canadian, you'll be happy to learn that you actually have 2 different options to obtain a Visa credit card with us in US Dollars!
You've reached out to TD Bank US, and we do offer the opportunity for you to apply for a US TD Visa Credit Card if you have a US Residential Street address within our US footprint (anywhere along the East Coast between Maine and Florida). You're welcome to begin an application for a US Visa Credit Card here: http://bit.ly/1vJ8Oa9. Please note that if your Social Insurance Number is provided on the application, your Canadian credit history will be used as part of the application process; or, if a US Social Security number is provided, your US credit history can be used. Once completed, you can then fax the application to:
Attn: Credit Card Operations, 1-856-642-3962
Or, it can be mailed to:
TD Card Services Attn: Credit Card Operations, Mailstop NJ5-134-498, 12000 Horizon Way, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054
This information is also listed at the bottom of the application for your convenience, along with the credit card Terms and Conditions. On this page, you'll be able to view the potential rates for your card as well as any fees which may apply. Please note that the specific terms of your credit card, such as the APR and credit limit, are extended at the time your application is approved, and a Credit Card Agreement specific to your account is also issued at that time. Once we receive your application, you should expect to receive a decision via mail within 7-10 business days after the application was submitted, and if approved, a card would arrive within the following 5-7 business days. Please know that you would need a Checking account established with TD Bank in the US (or another US financial institution) to be able to pay on this credit card; you would not be able to make payments on it from an account you have with TD Canada Trust (or any other Canadian financial institution).
If you have any questions regarding this process, you're welcome to contact our TD Cross Border Team. They're available 24/7 and can be reached at 877-700-2913, Option 2. You may also apply for a TD US Credit card at any local TD Bank Store, if you'll be in the US. To find TD store locations near you, please visit, http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Alternatively, please be aware that you can also open a US Dollar Visa Credit Card with TD Canada Trust as well. This type of card would actually still be considered a Canadian credit card, and thus could be paid from your Canadian-based checking account. We found this post from our friend Sandy answering another Customer that you may find helpful: http://bit.ly/1wdZ2Ol. She links to the TD Canada Trust page regarding their TD US Dollar Visa card that you can apply for. If you have any questions about this card, we recommend reaching out to the TD Canada Trust Credit Card Team 24/7 at 1-800-983-8472.
Thanks again for your interest, Alina! Please let us know about any questions you have and have a wonderful week.
