We appreciate you writing us on TD Helps, Joe and we are happy to provide the information you are requesting.
You may open a Representative type of account with your mother, however a Representative Payee is appointed by the Social Security Administration to manage the Social Security benefits of a disabled person or minor. We do have a similar account which is specifically designed for Representatives appointed by the Veteran’s Administration.
You may visit any TD Bank location to open the account. Feel free to check out TD hours and locations by visiting http://bit.ly/TDStores. To open the account, we are required to have your mother's Social Security Number and her date of birth on file. We will also need the following information from you as the Representative Payee:
- A copy of the appointment from the Veterans Administration; which must be retained by the Bank with our legal documents.
- Your personal information (name, date of birth, address, etc.)
Please keep in mind that as the Representative Payee, the appointment applies only to VA Benefit payments, and not to any other assets owned by your mother.
Thanks again for visiting us, Joe. Hope this helps and feel free to come back with any other questions.
