I also tried to use my TD debit card unsuccessfully at atms in South Africa last year. Do you think that may have had anything to do with the fact that my card did not have the new chip? Thanks

Thanks for joining us on TD Helps, Dwight. We'd be glad to discuss.
Please know that TD Bank offers a competitive exchange rate when making foreign currency exchanges or purchases. If you are concerned about the exchange rate being used, we recommend reaching out to us directly. You are able to call our Banking Specialists 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or visit any TD Store. To take a look at TD Stores and their hours please visit http://bit.ly/TDStores.
In regards to your debit card last year, often times service interruptions abroad are caused by the lack of Travel Notifications placed on your account as your debit card is accepted anywhere Visa is worldwide.
If you would like a new debit card with a chip, you are able to reach out to us using the methods above or by sending us a secure message via Online Banking. To send a secure message you must first logon to your TD Bank online profile. You can do so by clicking here: http://bit.ly/1eaISlq. On the left hand side, you should see an option to "Send a secure message" located in the “Message Center."
Please know that debit cards may take up to 7-10 business days to arrive.
We hope this clears up your concerns, Dwight and have a good day.
