I need to close my account. Can I just cash a check for the balance?

We're sad to hear that you'd like to close your account, April. We understand that banking needs change and we'd be glad to help you finalize your account.
If you would like to close your account, we understand. If you still have a balance in your account, we suggest making a purchase with your debit card or writing a personal check for the total amount in your account. Once your balance reads zero, the account can be closed in three ways.
Your first option is to contact us 24/7 at 888-751-9000. You can also send us a secure message via your Online Banking. To send a secure message you must first logon to your TD Bank online profile. You can do so by clicking here: http://bit.ly/1eaISlq. On the left hand side, you should see an option to "Send a secure message" located in the “Message Center."
Another option would be requesting your account to be closed by mail. Please mail your written, signed, and notarized request to:
TD Bank, N.A.
(Home Store Address)
(Home Branch Telephone Number)
Please be sure to provide your account number so we may issue you a check for the remaining funds in your account as well as your final statement. If you are unsure of which Store is your Home Store (where you opened your account), take a look at http://bit.ly/TDStores for locations.
We hope these options help, April and have a good day.
