just not sure what its for or how its even used. i tried to withdraw at atm but didnt work

We completely understand any confusion you may have between an ATM Card, and a Debit Card, and we'll be happy to clear things up for you. A TD Bank Debit Card looks similar to an ATM Card; however, this card type can be used to make purchases at merchants, as well as perform transactions at an ATM. ATM Cards currently only have access to perform transactions at ATM's, such as withdrawals, deposits, and balance inquiries.
If you are attempting to use your ATM Card, and are running into trouble doing so, there could be multiple reasons for the decline. For further assistance, you may contact a Banking Specialist at 1-888-751-9000. Specialists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and will be more than happy to help you get your card working again. You are also able to visit your nearest TD Store location for assistance. If you are currently signed up for Online Banking, you may also send a Secure Message from your Online Banking. To do so, first log into your TD Bank online profile by clicking here: https://go.td.com/1eaISlq. Once you've successfully logged in, look for the 'Message Center' on the left hand side and select 'Send a secure message'. If you have the TD Bank Mobile App downloaded on your smart phone, you may also send a Secure Message from their as well! From your Mobile Banking, log in and select 'Send a Secure Message' from the side Menu. We can generally respond within 24 hours or less, and will be more than happy to help!
