Is it still withdrawn from my checking account? I sent this check using online bill pay. It arrived 9 days late and I decided I didn't want to cash it anymore so I ripped it up. My parents then said that the money is already taken out of my account and now it's gone. However, the money hasn't been taken out of my account. How do I ensure that the money I sent myself via check stays in my account?

Thank you for visiting TD Helps tonight, David! We'll be glad to clarify your question regarding Bill Pay checks.
Based on your question, it sounds like you've created a Bill Pay, it was processed via paper check, you destroyed the check and you'd like to know if the funds will stay in your account. Since you haven't presented the check for payment, the funds will stay in your account.
If you happen to still have record of the check number and the amount, you can place a stop payment on the check. Please note that a fee may be assessed for this request. Take a look here: http://bit.ly/1cTejgt to view our Personal Fee Schedule.
You can place a stop payment through your online banking, sending us a secure message through online banking, giving us a call 24/7 at 888-751-9000 or visiting any TD Bank Store during lobby hours. Click here: http://bit.ly/TDStores to find a TD Bank near you.
If you choose to place the stop payment through online banking, please sign into your account, click on the Customer Service tab, select Stop Payment and follow the prompts. If you choose to send a secure message, please sign into your account and select "Send a message"; which is located underneath the Message Center on the left hand side of the page. In your message, please include the check number, amount and payee.
We hope this answers your questions, David and come by any time you have a question. Take care and enjoy the rest of your week!

Sorry to bother you again, but when you said, "Since you haven't presented the check for payment, the funds will stay in your account." does that mean that I don't have to worry about the money ever coming out of my account assuming the check never gets cashed? Is there a point in me stopping the payment of the check if it doesn't get cashed?

Thanks for coming back to TD Helps, David.
Typically if a check is lost, we would recommend placing a stop payment on that check. If the check is in your possession, you would not need to place a stop on the check you refer to.
If you have any further questions in which you would like us to review your account details with you, feel free to contact our 24/7 Banking Specialists at 888-751-9000. After account verification, we would be happy to assist. You may also visit any of your local TD Store locations as well. Click here: http://bit.ly/TDStores to find a TD Bank near you.
Thanks again for joining us on TD Helps, David. Have a wonderful evening!
