That's a great question, Agnes! We hope you enjoy your time in Europe and will be glad to provide you with further details regarding using your debit card abroad.
We are happy to say that TD Bank does not charge any kind of foreign transaction fees when using your debit card outside of the United States. In fact, you can use your TD debit card anywhere that VISA is accepted worldwide, as long as the ATM machine you're using has the VISA or Plus logo. As you already mentioned in your question, non-TD ATM fees still may apply. For more information on the Fee Schedule, please take a look here: http://bit.ly/1cTejgt.
Prior to leaving for your trip across the pond, we do ask that you place a travel notification on your account to avoid any interruptions with your debit card. To do so, please contact our 24/7 Customer Service line at 888-751-9000 to have a Customer Service Representative place a travel notification on your account(s).
You may also send a Secure Message through Online Banking as well. If you are not enrolled in Online Banking, please click here: http://bit.ly/1lU2qfY. You will need your account number, debit card number, Social Security number, and e-mail address. Once you are enrolled, please sign into your account and click on the Customer Service tab and then select Send a Message. If you choose this option, please include the exact travel dates, destinations and if there will be any connecting flight if applicable. If you need help enrolling, please call us at the number listed above for further assistance. After account verification, our Specialists would be happy to help.
If you are unable to call or send an email, you can always visit your local TD Bank and have a Customer Service Representative place the travel notes for you. Please visit: http://bit.ly/TDStores to find TD Bank near you.
Additionally, we also recommend carrying more than one method of payment while traveling, just in case you encounter any acceptance issues. For more travel tips, please visit http://bit.ly/1gDrDYu.
If you need to contact us while you're in Europe you may contact us by sending us a Secure Message, as described above, or call us from outside the United States via phone at 1-856-751-9000, or collect with operator assistance from a land line phone by asking the operator to dial 1-215-569-0518. For your convenience, we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The US country code is 1-011.
We hope this helps, Agnes and safe travels to you.
