Good Day Olga, thank you for stopping by TD Helps today. We are sorry to hear that you want to close your TD bank account.
In order to rent a Safe Deposit Box, you must have an active TD Bank account. Please keep in mind the active account with TD does not have to be a checking account. We offer a variety of Savings accounts too. If you'd like, please feel free to check out some of these accounts here: http://bit.ly/1pJT9I9. Or if you prefer we also have a Savings Selector Tool http://bit.ly/1vW1DvM which can help you choose the best savings account for your needs.
We offer many ways to open accounts. You can open your account online by clicking on the "Open Account" box; which will be listed at the bottom of each account details. To get started, you'll need the following: Your Social Security number and ID (Driver's License, State ID, or Passport). You will be able to transfer funds from your existing TD Bank account for the initial deposit.
You can also call us to help you with the account opening process by dialing 888-751-9000. Our Customer Service Representatives are available 24/7 to assist you.
Furthermore, you have the option of visiting us at a TD Store to open an account. If you choose this option, you will need to make an initial deposit to the account you selected. This deposit can also be the funds from the checking account. There would not be a minimum requirement to open the account; however, some accounts have requirements in order to have certain fees waived. We would encourage you to review the link above prior to your visit. For hours and locations near you, take a look here: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Once the funds have been removed from the checking account, please contact a Specialist 24/7 at 888-751-9000. After proper account verification, our Specialists would be more than happy to help. Or, if it's easier, you can also send a Representative your request to close your account via Online Banking. Please log in to your account here: http://bit.ly/1eaISlq and once logged in, visit the Customer Service tab. The "Send a Message" link will be available there for you to make your request. Should you require any increase for your debit card limits, this may also be done via this messaging system.
Please note, this request could take 2-3 business days to be completed.
We hope that this information is helpful, Olga. Don't hesitate to contact us again if you have further questions.
