Thank you for coming to TD Helps with your question, Matt. We will be happy to give you the procedures to follow.
If your Checking account is currently open with an overdrawn balance and you have another active TD Deposit account, such as a Checking, Statement Savings or Money Market account, you may initiate an online transfer to pay your negative balance on your Checking account via your Online Banking.
If you are enrolled for Online Banking, you may first access your accounts from here: http://bit.ly/1eaISlq. Once you are logged onto your accounts, please follow these steps to make this transfer:
1. Click on the “Transfers” tab, located on the top of your screen.
2. Enter the amount you wish to transfer in the box
3. Select the proper “TO” and “FROM” accounts
4. Select “Immediate Transfer”
5. Click on “Schedule Transfer”
6. Finally, click on “Complete Transfer"
If you are not currently enrolled for Online Banking and wish to enroll for your Personal accounts, you may use our self-service option by visiting http://bit.ly/1lU2qfY to begin the enrollment process. In order to do so, you will need your account number, TD Bank ATM/Debit Card, your Social Security Number and your email address. Once at the page, please select "Personal" from the drop down box. When you select continue, you will have to read and accept the Online Banking Service Agreement. Then you will be asked to enter your personal information including the items mentioned earlier and to create a user name and password. Finally you will be asked to create three security questions. When you finish the enrollment process, you will have immediate access to your account(s). After you log in, please follow the steps as mentioned above.
Once the transfer has posted and both the current and available account balances read zero, you may send us a secure email with the account number listed and a specific request to have the account closed. To send a Secure Message, you may first log in to your TD Bank online profile. Once you are logged onto your accounts, on the left hand side, you should see an option to "Send a secure message" located in the “Message Center."
You may also contact our Banking Specialists 24/7 at 888-751-9000 to submit the same requests. Please note, if you have a Business Account you wish to close, this must be completed at any TD Bank Store. For a listing of your local Stores, please see: http://bit.ly/TDStores.
Please keep in mind, if your Checking account is currently closed due to negative balance, you will need to contact our Recovery Department during normal business hours at 800-354-9769 to make payment arrangements, or visit your local TD Bank Store during the lobby hours to make the payments.
Let us know if you have any other questions. We hope you have a nice day!
