Great to see you and welcome to the TD Helps community!
Great question – your account number doesn't necessarily have to change. This all depends on what you might be requesting. If you'd like to change your account type but are keeping the same category of account (checking to checking, for example), then there's no need to change the account number unless you prefer to. On the other hand, if you have a savings and prefer a checking (another example), it would be necessary to open a checking account and this would have a separate account number.
Having said this, to change your account type or establish a new account, we'd be happy to be of assistance via phone. Our Specialists are available 24/7 at 888-751-9000, and can assist you in comparing accounts when you call.
You're also welcome to send us a Secure Message to change your account type. To do so, please log in at http://bit.ly/1eaISlq. Once you have logged in, locate the Customer Service tab at the top right, and then click on Send a Message. Please submit your inquiry including your account number and the type of account you're requesting, and a friendly Representative will respond shortly.
Or if you're nearby, you're always invited to any local TD Bank Store where a Representative can change your account type or help you with a new account. Please see http://bit.ly/TDStores for a listing of locations and hours near you.
We hope this answers your question, Victor!
Enjoy your afternoon and we hope to hear from you soon.
