Thanks for contacting TD Helps today, Maria. You came to the right place. We'll be happy to answer your question.
If you have already obtained a Legal Power of Attorney (POA), then you are able to open an account for the person you obtained the POA for. Please note that the document will need to contain the following information to be able to use it for the purpose of opening an account:
-The POA must have been witnessed
-It must also be notarized
-The POA must be valid and not expired
-If the existing document is older than 5 years, the agent must complete an Affidavit of Power of Attorney stating that the POA is still in full force and effect and has not been revoked, and the form must be notarized
-If the POA was executed in a foreign country, the document must be signed and notarized at a United States Consulate or Embassy
Please know that your POA documents will also need to be reviewed by a Store Representative before they are able to be accepted. If you have everything listed above, than you're all set and are able to open an account. You may choose to take a look at all the different types of accounts we offer before visiting your local TD Store location. If you are looking to open a Checking account, we have provided a link here http://go.td.com/1sJ2V2J with many different options for you, depending on your needs for the account.
